What is “Aggregation”?
In soils, aggregated soil particles “stick” together to provide the means to grow healthy, nutritious plants. Aggregation Agriculture embodies this concept: working together, combining efforts, and fostering a supportive community to produce the best, most nutritious crops possible.
Meet our Speaker: Colin McClure
Colin McClure, an agroecological coach and consultant, brings a wealth of experience from the agricultural world. His farming roots run deep: he’s a 3rd generation farmer on his father’s side in Washington State and a 4th generation farmer in Montana.
Colin operates a small family farm in southeastern Washington state, spanning 600 acres of organic ground. Since 2003, the farm has been certified organic, and Colin uses it as a testing ground for unconventional vegetable production methods. Notably, they haven’t applied any nitrogen or pesticides for over seven years.
Key Discussion Points
1. Economic Sense: Colin will delve into why farming and ranching with ecological principles make economic sense.
2. Profitability Over Yield: He’ll emphasize the importance of focusing on profitability per acre rather than just yield.
3. Soil Health: Weather permitting, there’ll be a soil pit discussion on soil health principles and the significance of paying attention to our underground livestock.
