SDSU Extension and the South Dakota Grassland Coalition will host a grassland restoration and waterfowl habitat bus tour in conjunction with a celebration featuring Wallace, SD artist and 3-time winner of the Federal Duck Stamp Adam Grimm on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Bus Tour Details
The bus tour begins at 8:00 a.m. to the Eck Grassland Habitat Restoration Project, located on the shores of Warner Lake. Tour participants will move from the bus to open trailers where they will ride through the prairies and wetlands on pasture roads while hearing from the landowner and habitat professionals as they discuss the process of collaborative restoration. Topics that will be covered include preparing the ground, seed mixes, planting, and use of tools like fire, mowing, and grazing. This site is full of waterfowl, grassland birds, wetlands, pollinators, butterflies, and scenic vistas. See below for bus tour registration. The bus tour will return to Wallace at approximately 11:00 a.m. in time for guests to join in the hometown celebration.
Hometown Event Details
The celebration in Wallace, featuring the Adam Grimm Hometown event kicks off at 10:00 a.m. The day will feature Adam Grimm’s artwork and fun and educational booths at the Wallace Community Center and throughout the downtown area. Other planned activities include food and fun for kids and adults alike, including contests, games, bouncy house, coloring contests, and scheduled showings of the film “Million Dollar Duck.” No registration is required to attend the hometown event.
