SDGC Free Webinar on Drought Planning
Drought: Plan now or Pay later
How long could your ranching operation survive on less than 10 inches of precipitation a year? That’s the annual precipitation Alejandro Carrillo receives year after year, yet he has transformed his ranch in the Chihuahuan Desert in Mexico into an oasis of vegetation, increasing both production and profitability. South Dakota rancher Jim Faulstich knows droughts are inevitable, so he relies on his contingency plan to be prepared when drought conditions develop here. These two ranchers will be featured during the “Drought: Plan Now or Pay Later” webinar at 7 p.m. CDT on April 4th and will provide their fellow ranchers with key grazing principles, practices and planning steps to survive “when times get dry.” The webinar, produced by the South Dakota Grassland Coalition, is free.
This is a webinar you don’t want to miss!
Here’s why:
- More than half of the counties in South Dakota were already abnormally dry in late February (US Drought Moniter).
- On average, drought comes to South Dakota every three years.
- Many ranchers who think they’re prepared, aren’t. You sure you’re ready? Afraid you might be forced to overgraze or sell cattle at low market prices?
