Audubon offers three programs in South Dakota.

The Audubon Conservation Ranching Initiative is a certification-based program with an emphasis on management, monitoring, and marketing. Enrolled ranches that adhere to set protocol and pass a third party audit are eligible to participate in market-based conservation incentives. Audubon partners with a variety of brands to bring products produced on Audubon certified bird friendly lands to consumers across the nation. Certification is currently limited to farms and ranches with at least 500 acres of grassland.

The Prairie Management Toolbox provides financial assistance for grassland managers to implement or enhance rotational grazing and address woody encroachment through mechanical removal and fire. These funds are primarily targeted toward the western half of the state. Audubon also provides prescribed fire planning for grassland managers from initial site visits through the completion of the project statewide.

The Conservation Forage Program partners with Ducks Unlimited’s Working Grassland Partnership to restore native grassland species on marginal cropland by covering the costs of restoration, and providing financial support to address income gaps during establishment.

Eligible to US Citizens that own or operate land in South Dakota.
