The NOLO project is designed to help landowners that have land in South Dakota but does not farm the land themselves. This project helps provide non-operator landowners with conservation resources to help achieve conservation goals.

NOLOs may be men or women, and young, old, or middle aged.

They may live on their land or hundreds of miles away. They may or may not have a farming background. While they may have many differences, the one thing they have in common is they own land, but do not farm it themselves.

Conservation districts and the NRCS believe landowners, whether they farm the land themselves or rent it to tenants, stand to gain the most from building soil health and conserving resources on their farm and ranch land over the long haul. While much of the day to day work the NRCS and conservation districts perform is with tenants who operate the land, we also want to help landowners sustain profits and ensure one of your most important assets–your land–will be productive for years and generations to come.
