South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Private Lands Habitat Program

South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks

The goal of the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks (GFP) Private Lands Habitat Program is to help landowners establish, restore, or manage habitat on private land to enhance reproduction, recruitment, and survival of wildlife.  Several program options are available to support management practices that emphasize healthy working grasslands and establish woody cover and shelterbelts.

GFP Private Lands Habitat Biologists are available to meet you on your property anywhere in the state.  Private Lands Habitat Biologists are experts in designing and tailoring projects to fit your habitat and farm/ranch goals and identifying potential financial assistance to help you accomplish your visions.   GFP’s Private Lands Habitat Program include grassland restoration, wetland restoration, grazing management systems such as fence and water development, brood/pollinator perennial plots, wildlife food plots, and woody habitat plantings.
