The Grass is Greener program is a Producer‑First initiative enrolling cattle producers in the Northern Great Plains and Upper Midwest, offering one‑on‑one technical assistance for seed selection, planting recommendations, and management best practices, along with financial incentives for cover crops, forage planting, and range planting, as well per head in cattle premiums paid. The program is designed to help producers who want to enhance forage production, improve grazing practices, plant cover crops, and restore land to native pasture, the program supports long‑term operational resiliency while increasing efficiency across cattle operations. Participants implement a cover crop, forage, or range planting and maintain perennials for at least five years while allowing soil sampling up to twice annually, providing basic field and operation information, and signing a 1‑year contract.
